Thoughts on appearance

It's yet impossible to free our cognitive processes from appearances.
We look at things and people and our mind gives us a quick idea of what and who is in front of us, because it cannot stand the unknown.
It's perfectly sensible from an evolutionary standpoint : the ones that quickly assessed the situation took statistically sound decisions informed by early decision-making. To know if a fellow human was a physical threat, a potential mate or a wounded kinsman was key to insuring a combat stance and a social reaction that were adapted to him or her.
But we're trapped. We look for for the beautiful, the reassuring, the soothing, the exciting, the exotic-yet-familiar, the "perfect average" with each our own spectrum of values linked to appearances. The beautiful face is the million facets of the same gene-imprinted idea of perfection in a given population group, that reconstructed "average beauties" and "average faces" manage to fool our mind with.
The next species of human will be the one that gets rid of its subjugation to appearances, because now that we have the means to make all of our fantasies and deceits visually credible, the cognitive processes based on visual stimuli are no longer relevant.
